How do I get referred to clinic?

If you require clinical advice on wound care management, please contact your local NHS wound care provider for further support and guidance.

If your wound care provider considers that you have a wound that requires specialist input, a referral can be made to the complex wound clinic service, held at the University Hospital Wales, Cardiff.
Referral to this service can be made by your GP, or another healthcare professional (a Hospital Consultant for referrals outside of Cardiff & Vale).

We undertake complex wound clinics each week at University Hospital Wales Cardiff.

The types of wounds referred include:
  • Category 3 and 4 pressure ulcers
  • Leg ulcers where standard treatment has failed to heal these wounds within 8 – 12 weeks
  • Acute wounds e.g. Hidradenitis Suppurativa, Pilonidal Sinus, Dehisced abdominal wounds
  • Non-healing or deteriorating surgical wounds
  • Wounds where a malignancy is suspected
  • Wounds without a definitive diagnosis
  • Malignant and fungating wounds
