Burns Outreach Service

BurnsThe aim of the Burns Outreach Service is to provide the highest quality of care for all children and adults referred with burns, scalds and other skin loss conditions.

The Welsh Centre for Burns provides a burns service to South and Mid Wales.  It is the lead adult burn service for the South West UK Burns Network and as such will also accept referral of complex adult burns from South Wales as well as from the South West of England.
The service offers advice and conservative management (treatments that do not involve surgery) to treat scars.

Managing scars can involve the use of silicone and/or pressure garments to help prevent or reduce hypertrophic scarring.  Scarring can take around two years to mature so treatment can continue during this time.  Scars can not be removed but these treatments can help to reduce itch, pain and sensitivity and leave scars flat, soft and supple.
